Computational 3-D Heart Model for TAVI

By Matthew | Innovation & Research | Comments are Closed | 7 November, 2018 | 0

The 3-D Heart Model and its segmentation technique were recently utilised by our Trans-catheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) team at Morriston Hospital. Clinicians using the segmentation technique were able to successfully implant a transcatheter aortic valve, with precision, in a patient with a pre-existing mechanical Starr-Edwards mitral prosthesis. The success of this innovative research and its clinical outcome can be read in their recently published article.

The TAVI team members involved were Dr Daniel R Obaid PhD, Dr David Smith MD, Dr Michael Gilbert FRCA, Prof. Saeed Ashraf FRCS and Prof. Alexander Chase PhD.
