
Morriston Hospital is a leading centre in the research of inflammatory response during and following heart surgery in patients. This research work, led by Professor Ashraf, has been utilised in the bio-compatibility of LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) in patients with very poor left ventricular function. At present Professor Ashraf is in the process of setting up a research laboratory team to investigate the biocompatibility of artificial cardiac devices in humans. The aim of this research is to reduce the deleterious effects of mechanical devices in people receiving these devices.
